It is somewhat similar to aspirin in its chemical nature without retaining the active characteristics. The bark of the willow (Latin: Salix) tree is a source of this acid. Extremely effective in the treatment of callouses, acne, psoriasis, keratosis, stretch marks, corns, warts and pilaris. This acid cures acne by protecting the skin pores from clogging up by effectively making the skin slough off. It also eliminates dandruff. Hyperpigmentation can be one of the side effects of this acid on unpretreated skin for those who are a darker shade if applied directly or without mixing it with a broad spectrum sunblock. The salicylic acid is also commonly known as a beta hydroxy acid.

Camphor: The source of this substance often used in facial cleansers is an Asian (found in Borneo) tree that is perennially green and known as camphor laurel or Cinnamonum camphora. Other trees in the laurel family like Ocotea usambarensis also are a source of camphor that is perfectly biological in nature. This substance can be a coolant to the skin like menthol and can serve the purpose of a local anesthetic and antibiotic.

Phenol: Yet again this is a natural compound and is an antiseptic and anesthetic substance. It is also aromatic oil.

Other varieties of cleansing substances could be alpha-beta facial cleansers that is useful on oily skin and makes it smoother and more elastic. The color obtained is again more uniform.
